Tribute to The King of Pop: Michael Jackson

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. Called the King of Pop, his contributions to music and dance, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.
The eighth child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his elder brothers
Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon as a member of the Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971. In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in
popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller", were credited with breaking down racial barriers and with transforming the medium into an art form and promotional tool. The popularity of these videos helped to bring the then-relatively-new television channel MTV to fame. With videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream", he continued to innovate the medium throughout the 1990s, as well as forging a reputation as a touring solo artist. Through stage and video performances, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the
moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive sound and style has influenced numerous artists of various music genres.
Jackson's 1982 album Thriller is the best-selling album of all time. His other albums, including Off the Wall (1979),
Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995), also rank among the world's best-selling albums. Jackson is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Dance Hall of Fame as the first and only dancer from pop and rock music. His other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records, 13 Grammy Awards, the Grammy Legend Award, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, 26
American Music Awards—more than any other artist—including the "Artist of the Century" and "Artist of the 1980s", 13 number-one singles in the United States during his solo career,—more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era—and estimated sales of over 400 million records worldwide.[Note 1] Jackson has won
hundreds of awards, making him the most awarded recording artist in the history of popular music. He became the first artist in history to have a top ten single in the Billboard Hot 100 in five different decades when "Love Never Felt So Good" reached number nine on May 21, 2014. Jackson traveled the world attending events honoring his humanitarianism, and, in 2000, the Guinness World Records recognized him for supporting 39 charities, more than any other entertainer.
Aspects of Michael Jackson's personal life, including his changing appearance, personal relationships, and behavior, generated controversy. In the mid-1990s, he was accused of child sexual abuse, but the civil case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount and no formal charges were brought. In 2005, he was tried and acquitted of further child sexual abuse allegations and several other charges after the jury found him not guilty on all counts. While preparing for his comeback concert series titled This Is It, Jackson died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication on June 25, 2009, after suffering from cardiac arrest. The Los Angeles County Coroner ruled his death a homicide, and his personal physician Conrad Murray was convicted of
involuntary manslaughter. Jackson's death triggered a global outpouring of grief and a live broadcast of his
public memorial service was viewed around the world.

"I want to thank Brendan Rodgers for giving me a chance and an opportunity in the first team, and giving me a real chance to cement a place in the first team and show the world my talents.

Social Rejection

According to Wikipedia, social rejection can be defined as a deliberate exclusion of an individual from a social interaction or relationship. Social in this sense simply means a gathering to foster introduction or cooperating in groups. Studies have shown that since humans are social beings, to that extent, social rejection is inevitable. We have all been rejected in one way or another socially, but how did we manage that rejection? How did we separate what was and what was not? Transcending the illusion of rejection?. Rejection has been said to occur in two forms, it is either passive or active. Active involves teasing and bullying which can be associated with children and teens, while passive involves ignoring a person or giving the silent treatment which can be associated with adults.
The experience of rejection can be subjective to the recipient and it is sometimes percieved when it is not there due to prolonged and consistent rejection. Truth is we humans have a need to associate and relate with one another and while we nurture that need and bask in the moment of want we are so overwhelmed that we forget that the factor "choice" is ingredient in every interaction or association because what we unconsciously do When we try to associate is we literally hand out a proposal that says I am going to be worth your while or you remind me of myself I think we will both enjoy our company. So in the process of trying to be funny, trying to sell, we lose sight of the what if's and what is next if my "proposal" is refused do we then see ourselves as not good enough? Or socially retarded? Do we then allow ourselves to become a case study where people make money off us and make theories and term us this and that? Do we then remain lonely? Have low self esteem? Be aggressive? Be depressed? Be immature? Have an impulsive behaviour? It is high time we started being confident about ourselves, it is high time we evolved, why should you be depressed when someone does not recognize your value? For goodness sake who is at a loss? Do not worry they will come around they always do, and if they don't, it is simply good riddance to bad rubbish. The truth is each and every one of us is awesome in our own little way and we deserve someone who will appreciate and value that awesomeness. So if we get rejected in the process of finding that person do not give up and become depressed, life is too short to let some blind persons decide how you live. So be cool with which you are irrespective of what you are, people will always have their opinion about you, well, that is why they call it an opinion, it does not count unless you want it to. The honest truth is rejection is inevitable even the most social people in the world also suffer rejection once in a while, so do not ever take it personal because it is never personal it is just life!!!

The Woman Part 2

Feminist movements have campaigned and continue to campaign for Women's right including the right to Vote, to hold public office, to work to fair wages or equal payy, town Property , to enter contract to have equal rights within marriage and to have Maternity leave. An awful lot these females want you might think but apart from the maternity leave men also enjoy all these rights not because they are better but because they've had the notion that women should be relegated to the background. Feminists have also worked to promote bodily autonomy and integrity, and to protect women and girls from rape sexual harassment and domestic violence.

You might say women voice out their frustrations in an abusive marriage but it would interest you to know that most women still keep it to themselves and hide under the umbrella of "their children " to remain in the relationship or marriage.
Some women are forced not to work because "in nigeria women are supposedly not allowed to be ambitious"
Women need to be empowered. I'm sure you've heard this over and over again
Please don't get tired of hearing this .
We need a better country and to move forward the "females " need to be given almost equal if not equal rights as the men.
Train a woman and you've trained a nation but train a man and you've trained an individual.
It's therefore not surprising when Hillary Clinton said in an interview with Mo Abudu ""If your country(Nigeria) does not empower women, you cannot grow beyond a certain point"
It's however important to note that being feminist does not give a free ticket to women to disrespect their husbands or fail in marital and family duties.

Let's make a change!

Djokovic wins again!

Novak Djokovic has won his 3rd Wimbledon title and his 9th grand slam after dismissing Roger Federer 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3. He is just 28, there will be more, there will surely be more. He ended Roger Federer's hope of a record 8th Wimbledon tittle. He did what was beyond Andy Murray: he broke down Roger Federer’s serve with the depth and ferocity of his returns and whenever he was in trouble on his own serve, he always found a way. It was a bit anti-climactic in the end. The brilliant Djokovic refused to be steered off course after losing that tie-break in the second set. Roger Federer might be the greatest but Novak Djokovic is the best now.

Fashion Tips & Tricks for the weekend.

So here's something for our female readers. This week we've decided to post a little something-something on Fashion Tips & Tricks for our female-readers and those it may concern. It's another beautiful weekend and a lot of parties ranging from wedding ceremonies, child dedications to birthday parties will be going down and also a lot of turning up .so here are some make up Tips & Tricks for the weekend.Concealer – "Put concealer on the inside corners of your brow bone where it’s dark. You don’t need concealer as much under the eye as you do in this area. I promise it'll make a huge difference in pictures. You don’t want to wash the face out so use concealer sparingly, like around the corners of the nose and mouth. If you have a natural rosy flush, use concealer right up against your flush and don’t cover it up. Pat concealer on instead of rubbing it back and forth. You can use your finger or a sponge, but I prefer a brush. I find that washing brushes are much easier than sponges."

Lashes – "Start curling at the tips of your lashes, pump 10 times, curl the middle with 10 pumps, and finish by curling at the roots 10 times. Starting from the tips and ending at the roots seems to make the curl last longer. Skip the mascara until the very end of your look. You don’t want to get any powder or shimmer on the lashes, nor do you want any dry mascara flakes on your skin. When you’re young, it’s fine to put mascara on your bottom lashes, but I tend to avoid it on older women because I want everything to look like it's going up. Wiggle the mascara from the root up, and if you're putting mascara on your bottom lashes, make sure to fold tissue under the eyes so it catches any flakes."

Eyebrows - "With eyebrows, I go with a color that’s a shade or two lighter (especially with a blonde). Usually it’s a taupe on a blonde. I use brow powder to fill in your brows at the top of the peak using an angled brush. The powder melts into the skin and is a little less intense than a pencil. If there is an area where there is hair missing, I just go into the area and fill it in. I don’t ever use a heavy hand for brows, even if it is on a red carpet with flash photography."

Eyeshadow - "If you're using a bright eyeshadow, I'd suggest keeping the color close to the lash line with a neutral lid and avoid going too large. You can use a bright color on the bottom, but save it for evening events. Before you put your shadow on, dab on a bit of concealer, moisturizer, or primer on your lid – anything that the color will grab on to. I'd also say to avoid any eyeshadow with zinc as an ingredient because it can look really chalky under flash."
Eyeliner – "I like to apply eyeliner using an angled brush. I run the brush over the tip of an eyeliner pencil, and the end result looks softer than a gel liner. The black on the lid is meant to make the lash look as long as possible, not to look like eyeliner."

Highlighter - "I stick to cream highlighters because they become more of the skin while powders sit on the skin (of course on lids, I'll use powders because cream creases there). Think about where the sun hits: The tops of cheekbones, above the top of the brow, down the nose, on top of your cupid's bow, and on your chin. If you are wearing a dress with bare shoulders and neck – put a bit of highlighter on your clavicle and shoulders. If your hair is pulled back, use some on the tops of your ears. Glide the highlighter on, then tap around the edges."

Blush – "I’m a fan of taupe for the entire face, but I use color sparingly. Taupe works with most people. But, for darker skin, I’ll use a taupe with more sheen (darker skin is naturally more “sheen-y”) otherwise, stick with matte or satin blush. I use taupe instead of bronzer because I haven’t found one that doesn’t look orange. And if they’re not orange then they’re more taupe anyway, so I just keep using this taupe blush that has been working for me for years. Finish with a light pink blush between the taupe and highlighter on the apple of the cheeks."

Lips – "When you know you're going to be photographed, you want to make sure your lips are perfect. First, brush lips with a little bit of Aquaphor and a baby toothbrush. Then use a lip concealer (or you can use the one that you use on your skin). Always smile when you put the concealer on your lips to get the product into the wrinkles. If you don’t want to fully wash the color out of your lips, just use a beige lip gloss and you’ve effectively taken out a step."

Serena Slam

Serena Williams slammed her way to a sixth Wimbledon singles title Saturday morning, completing her second so-called "Serena Slam" and positioning herself for tennis history.

The 33-year-old American defeated Garbine Muguruza of Spain, 6-4, 6-4, to win her fourth consecutive Grand Slam tournament, beginning with last year's U.S. Open and including this year's Australian and French open titles. She accomplished a similar sweep in 2002-2003.

The Wimbledon win is also her 21st grand slam tittle.

She is now poised to equal some of the greatest marks in tennis six weeks from now at the U.S. Open in New York:

  • A calendar-year sweep of the major tournaments has only been accomplished three times and not since Steffi Graf did it in 1988.
  • Williams can also match Graf's Open-era record of 22 Grand Slam singles titles.
  • A seventh title would break a tie with Chris Evert for most U.S. Open wins.

The U.S. Open begins Aug. 31 in Flushing Meadows, New York.

Nigeria vs The Classic Man

Nigeria has always been quick to align itself with success. Every time a new star is born and he is from Africa most especially Nigeria, people have been quick to "claim" them as one of there own. This was very evident on the case of British born Nigerian actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.  After his much acclaimed role in major Hollywood productions , Nigerians where quick to remind every one that he is a Nigerian. Fast foward to 2015 which has been a breakthrough year for many stars of foreign nationalities but of Nigerian descent. This was very evident in the case of Jidenna Theodore Mobisson an American artiste of Igbo Nigerian heritage. After the BET awards, Nigerians all celebrated him while spelling it loud and clear that he was a son of the soil. That goodwill has recently vanished after a recent interview with vlad Tv when the artiste recounted he's experience when they travelled back home to bury their father. Jidenna the youngest of four children said that they hired trained commandos with Ak47 automatic rifles to guard against kidnapping which was quite rampant at the time. He went on to claim that the kidnappers targeted light skinned Nigerians more(What of Ramsey Noah, Amber Rose and Igwe Tupac) .He went on to say that he was from the Southeast region of Nigeria predominantly inhabited by the Igbo people. He made matters worst by saying that this region was away from the city (can you imagine this pickin? ??) and was in the bush. Nigeria already has so many problems especially with the radical sect of Boko Haram, dwindling economy and a floundering leadership who are confused and seem adept at playing the blame game (can't fail to mention the drama of the past few weeks that has taken place in the legislature). Jidenna should try and put he's country of descent in good light instead of trolling Nigeria as we already have enough negative press. On the other hand he was just accounting he's experience although he did not say it in the right way and Nigerians as we always do , overreacted . Please, let us forgive him after all he's still our own son.

The Woman; part 1

Women are beautiful, wonderful, strong creatures. It does not matter how uneducated, everyone has the strength in them.  Often I've had to engage in a lot of arguments with people who didn't really know what feminism was about. So here it is. It is a collection of movements and ideologies that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve equal political, economic, cultural, personal, and social rights for women  This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment. A feminist advocates or supports the rights and equality of women.

Keshi Sacked!

The future looked bright after Stephen Keshi led Nigeria to a long awaited third AFCON tittle in 2013, he also led Nigeria to the round of 16 in the 2014 Fifa World Cup, But failure to lead Nigeria to the 2015 AFCON has led to a shaky relationship between Stephen Keshi and the Nigeria Football Federation which eventually led to him being sacked, with the NFF stating that Keshi was not committed enough. According to Felix Anyansi-Agwu, chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, they are in talks with former Super Eagles Captain Sunday Oliseh to coach the Super Eagles following Keshi's sack.

Tribute To The Pioneer of Afrobeat: Fela Kuti

Fela Kuti, born Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti on 15 October 1938 at Abeokuta, Ogun State Nigeria.
Fela, who is also known as Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Fela Ransome Kuti, is a veteran musician, singer-songwriter, activist, multi instrumentalist and pioneer of Afrobeat.
He started his music career in 1958 and is popularly known for songs like: Fela's London Scene (1971), Why Black Man Dey Suffer (1971), Live! (1971), Shakara (1972), Afrodisiac (1973), Gentleman (1973), Confusion (1975), Expensive Shit (1975), He Miss Road (1975), Zombie (1977), Stalemate (1977), No Agreement (1977), Sorrow Tears and Blood (1977), Shuffering and Shmiling (1978), Black President (1981), Original Sufferhead (1981), Unknown Soldier (1981), Army Arrangement (1985), Beasts of No Nation (1989), Confusion Break Bones (1990), The Best Best of Fela Kuti (1999), The '69 Los Angeles Sessions (1969/2010).
The Herald Sun, 2011 said;
"Imagine Che Guevara and Bob Marley rolled into one person and you get a sense of Nigerian musician and activist Fela Kuti."
Fela's songs were also very long, at least 10–15 minutes in length, and many reaching the 20 or even 30 minutes, while some unreleased tracks would last up to 45 minutes when performed live. This was one of many reasons that his music never reached a substantial degree of popularity outside Africa.
He died on 2 August 1997 (aged 58). On 3 August 1997, Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, already a prominent AIDS activist and former Minister of Health, stunned the nation by announcing his younger brother's death a day earlier from Kaposi's sarcoma which was brought on by AIDS. More than a million people attended Fela's funeral at the site of the old Shrine compound. A new Africa Shrine has opened since Fela's death in a different section of Lagos under the supervision of his son Femi Kuti.
